Another tech that ICAN teaches it students is summarizing. While students are visualizing what they read, they need to translate what they visualize in order to retell the story, alternatively.
After they go to the beginning of a chapter, they need to learn how to organize the contents by emphasizing the character, setting, and plot.

Based on this, they will tell the story -- the main ideas and details -- with the help of a graphic organizer suggested by their teachers.
Summarizing, used in non-fiction reading, teaches students how to discern the most important ideas in a text, how to ignore irrelevant information, and how to integrate the central ideas in a meaningful way. Teaching students to summarize improves their memory for what is read. Summarization strategies can be used in almost every content area.
